Module 2
SEARCH ENGINES & WEB NAVIGATION
Students can use search engines in so many helpful ways with the internet. Knowing how to use the internet's search engines will allow students to be more successful in the classroom. They can use subject index searches, keyword searches, and advanced searches to find exactly what is most helpful (Roblyer, 2016, pg. 182).WEBSITE EVALUATION
I really love this video because it is silent. It only plays music. This will allow me to use the video in my classroom and pause/play it whenever I need to ask questions or further explain an idea. I also like how the 4 steps are easy to remember and can easily be made into a poster for the classroom.
FAVORITE PROFESSIONAL WEBSITES
Teachers Pay Teachers - This website is amazing!!! The information on this website has helped me get new ideas and find new ways to teach information already. I know that this website will help me in the future to teach my students in the most effective way possible.
Smart Exchange - This website is similar to the first. It allows a teacher to get information or worksheets from other teachers while also sharing their own. The main difference that I have encountered is that this website aligns certain activities with standards. It allows a teacher to search for a standard that they may be having trouble teaching and get ideas.
ONLINE SAFETY AND SECURITY
I have always heard of cookies, but never knew what they were. Cookies are programs that track a users internet activity. These can sometimes violate the privacy of the users (Roblyer, 2016, p. 175). Students should not have to worry about their privacy being violated or their internet use being tracked in an inappropriate way.
I did not know what cookies were either. When a little box popped up on my computer screen that read, "This website contains cookies, would you still like to continue," I always thoughtlessly clicked the yes button. But cookies seemed to develop from good intentions. According to the text, Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching, "the purpose of cookies is to provide the server with information that can help personalize Web activity to your needs"(Roblyer, 2016, p.175). Regardless, as educators, we should make sure to teach our students about these privacy invading cookies.
ReplyDeleteSmart Exchange is an awesome website! I had never heard of it before reading your blog! I specifically like how it relates standards to the lesson plan, which is extremely beneficial for the teacher! Before reading the text, I was unaware that cookies could track internet activity. It is encouraging to know that cookies can be prevented through appropriate actions by both the student or teacher (Roblyer, 2016, p. 175).
