Module 4 - Teaching and Learning with Technology in Special Education

Technology in education is not simply computers, iPads, interactive boards, and websites.  This is often what General Education teachers think of when technology is brought up; however, when Special Education teachers hear this word many different types of technology come to mind.  Some of these are text-to-speech products, text enlargement devices, and joy sticks to operate wheel chairs (Robyler, 2016, p. 411-412). Advantages of Integrating Technology Special Education teachers have to be aware of both assistive technology and instructional technology (Robyler, 2016, p. 407).  Both types are shown in this video.  By watching this video, I am so much more excited to start in special education and use technology in every way.  By using different types of technology, these otherwise silent kids get to have a voice.  They told us how much easier doing assignments, learning, and speaking are with these types of technology.   Disadvantages of Inte...

Materials Generators Materials generators "help teachers and students produce instructional materials on paper and online" (Roblyer, 2016, p. 164).  The first materials generator that I found was an awesome Google Add-on.  This allows you to take any information that is typed in a document and turn it into a question on a form.  This could take so much time out of formatting a test or a questionnaire.  I will definitely use this in my future classroom!  The second materials generator that I love is  Puzzle-Maker .  This website allows teachers to enter words and clues to create a crossword puzzle.  This could be used in all subject areas for an engaging way to learn vocabulary. SEARCH ENGINES & WEB NAVIGATION Students can use search engines in so many helpful ways with the internet.  Knowing how to use the internet's search engines will allow students to be more successful in the classroom.  They can use subject index searches, keyword searches, and advanced searches to find exactly what is most helpful   (Roblyer, 2016, pg. 182). WEBSITE EVALUATION I really love this video because it is silent.  It only plays music.  This will allow me to use the video in my classroom and pause/play it whenever I need to ask questions or further explain an idea.  I also like how the 4 steps are easy to remember and can easily be made into a poster for the classroom.
